You will be a core contributor to the Web Services team, designing, developing, and maintaining the high-performance, scalable backend services that power the entire mod.io ecosystem. This role ensures reliable, fast API access for game clients, developers, and users globally. You will use modern technologies to build robust systems, directly contributing to the platform's stability and future scalability under global traffic and high concurrency.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Understanding and actioning the technical requirements for integrating mod.io middleware with game clients, mod creators, payment providers, and stores which is reflected in your contributions.
  • Working alongside our frontend, metrics and in-game development teams to understand, define and develop our REST API to fit their needs.
  • Testing and implementing your code with a strong attention to detail and maintainability.
  • Reviewing code of other team members as if you wrote it yourself.
  • Delivering clean, performant, tested and secure code that will be used by millions of concurrent players all around the world on some of the biggest games available.
  • Keeping your house clean, your code may be open sourced on Github and must be well documented for our community to fork and adapt as they need.

Job requirements

What You Need To Be Successful

  • 2+ years PHP experience working with Laravel.
  • Experience with NoSQL key-stores such as Redis & relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, etc).
  • An ability to write high quality, modern PHP code using the Laravel framework.
  • A strong understanding of RESTful API’s and how applications consume them.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services’ such as ECS, S3, Lambda, SNS, SES, SQS, EC2, RDS.
  • Familiarity with testing suites such as PHPUnit, with the expectation that all code you write is thoroughly tested.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Confidence in your ability to contribute to a project from start to finish with little oversight from senior team members.
  • An excitement to dig in and experiment, with real attention to detail and to challenge conventions
  • A hunger to own your code, improve your craft, and create a kick ass experience for millions of gamers along the way.

It would be awesome if you also have:

  • A passion for video games and an understanding of the unique challenges UGC presents us and similar businesses like Youtube and Steam.
  • Experience with C# and ASP .NET
  • Familiarity with Frontend development & Single-page applications (SPA’s)
  • Familiarity with Vue.js
  • Experience with Swagger/OpenAPI
