This role can be based in Adelaide or Perth, our HQ is in Adelaide & hybrid working is available there and in Perth where we also have an office. Fleet Space is looking for a Legal Counsel to support our General Counsel on a wide range of legal matters, with a particular focus on international contracts, sales and procurement within our mineral exploration services. This is a hands-on, in-house role in a fast pace Technology company and you will work end-to-end on most matters, from troubleshooting, giving advice on management of commercial and other areas of risk exposure, drafting and reviewing agreements through to securing signatures on final documents. If you haven't heard of Fleet Space before, we are on a mission to help humanity explore and connect the Earth, Moon, and Mars. From our Adelaide headquarters, we've launched one of Australia's largest satellite constellations and built ExoSphere: our end-to-end mineral exploration solution that uses smart seismic sensors connected in real time via our own satellites, combined with AI to image the subsurface in days rather than months. It's how we're accelerating the discovery of the critical minerals needed for the clean energy transition.

Responsibilities

Key ResponsibilitiesThis role works closely with the General Counsel and partners across the business - including commercial, engineering and people teams - to provide practical, timely legal support with contracts and procurement at the centre of the role.Contracts & Procurement

  • Assess, draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including customer contracts, supplier and procurement agreements, and international transactions.
  • Support procurement processes end-to-end, including contract review, negotiation with vendors and suppliers, and risk assessment.
  • Implement effective contractual handovers to business management once agreements are finalised.
  • Manage non-disclosure agreements, and support trademark and intellectual property protections.

Legal Advisory Support

  • Advise the business on intellectual property, patent management, employee relations, commercial risk and corporate governance matters.
  • Review and advise on grants, research and collaborative partnership agreements.
  • Support the implementation of Fleet's enterprise risk management framework, including assessing, measuring and mitigating Fleet's exposure to risk, and reporting for decision-making purposes.

Governance & Litigation Support

  • Assist with the preparation of board papers and support the General Counsel in board and governance processes;
  • Support the management of legal claims and litigation.
  • Coordinate execution and signature of legal documents across the business.
  • Support corporate international affairs, regulatory compliance, and export and trade law matters; and
  • Assist with parent and international subsidiary governance.

Job requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Around 5-8 years of total experience with some In-house legal experience is essential; time in a law firm is valuable, but a genuine track record working in-house is a must.
  • Contract law as a clear strength in your experience and knowledge.
  • Experience working across international jurisdictions, not just Australia, given Fleet's global customers and entities.
  • Exposure to the mining or mineral exploration sectors or oil and gas is a bonus
  • Comfortable negotiating contracts directly with non-lawyers (geologists, mining managers, HR and others) and translating legal concepts into plain, practical language.
  • Highly hands-on, with little to no delegation in this role - comfortable managing your own filing, admin and end-to-end matters.
  • Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment is a plus, and reflects the ad-hoc, hands-on nature of this role.
  • Broad legal knowledge across IP, trademarks, commercial risk, employee relations, regulatory compliance, export and trade law, and corporate governance.
