Job description

💻 About the role

Amber is looking to hire a Regulatory Compliance Manager to lead our retail compliance function and external engagement as we scale. This is a step up from an officer-level role; you will own the compliance framework, manage regulatory relationships, and lead a small team as the business grows.

As senior operational lead on regulatory compliance you will sit within Amber’s Legal team, working closely to ensure Amber identifies and responds to its obligations as a licensed retailer in a timely, accurate, and well-coordinated way. You will also take a forward-looking view; anticipating regulatory change, shaping Amber's policy positions, and building the systems and capability that let the business grow confidently.

This role is ideal for a regulatory professional who has mastered compliance execution and is ready to move into a leadership role with genuine influence over business strategy and regulatory outcomes.

Responsibilities

👉🏽 What You'll Be Doing

Regulatory Leadership & Compliance Ownership

  • Own Amber's compliance framework across all NEM retailer obligations: designing, maintaining, and continuously improving the systems, registers, and processes that keep us on top of our obligations
  • Act as Amber's point of contact for regulators including the AER, AEMO, AEMC, and state-based bodies: building trusted relationships and representing Amber's interests with credibility
  • Work with the Legal team to translate regulatory obligations under the NERR, NER, and relevant state legislation into accessible, actionable guidance for operations, product and finance teams
  • Oversee all regulatory reporting submissions, formal information requests, and licence condition obligations: ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and cross-functional validation

Policy & Regulatory Reform

  • Coordinate Amber's engagement in regulatory consultations, rule change processes, and reform workstreams: project managing submissions, tracking deadlines, and ensuring cross-functional input is gathered and distilled effectively
  • Maintain a forward-looking view of regulatory change: horizon-scanning for reforms across retail, network, and wholesale markets and assessing their business impact before they land
  • The opportunity to represent Amber externally in stakeholder forums: advocating for fit-for-purpose regulatory frameworks that work for innovative retailers
  • Maintain Amber's regulatory innovation pathways, including engagement with bodies on bespoke compliance approaches suited to our wholesale pass-through model

Cross-Functional Leadership & Projects

  • Drive cross-functional delivery of complex regulatory projects
  • Partner with teams across the business to embed regulatory requirements into roadmaps and processes: acting as a strategic enabler rather than just a compliance review department
  • Build and uplift regulatory capability across the operations business: training teams, creating accessible guidance materials, and instilling a culture of proactive compliance

Team & Capability Building

  • Manage and develop compliance staff
  • Support the business to build scalable internal compliance systems and tooling that can grow with the business, reducing manual effort while increasing rigour and auditability

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a small team and coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder compliance or regulatory projects to a deadline
  • Leadership and influencing skills. You are able to work across senior stakeholders internally and externally, and bring cross-functional teams along
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You are capable of drafting Exec-ready briefings, submissions to regulators, and accessible guidance for non-specialist audiences

Highly Regarded

  • Experience at or engaging with the AER, ESC, AEMO, or AEMC, either from the regulator side or as a sophisticated industry participant
