Job description

Overview

The Cloud Authentication team is on a mission to enhance the security and availability of hosted authentication providers for Octopus Cloud. You'll contribute to Customer Identity and Access Management projects.

We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our growing team, which includes a Senior Product Manager and Lead Engineer. If applying your engineering management expertise to our mission sounds exciting, we'd love to hear from you!

Why this job is exciting:

  • You’ll have the opportunity to lead a sustainable, high-performing team of autonomous engineers, holding them accountable for their results and letting them manage how they get there.
  • Your team will focus on a strategically important part of our business, across areas critical to operational security as well as key user experiences for customers, in the identity and access management areas of our products
  • We offer great benefits, including generous laptop and home office allowances, plus stock options!
  • We value transparency and fairness in every aspect of our business. For example, our executive leadership team shares monthly updates on company performance, and our pay structures are designed to pass the printer test.
  • Trust and autonomy. Octonauts are treated like adults and are trusted to find the best way to work for the task at hand without managers looking over their shoulder.
  • Remote first: work from wherever you feel most productive.

Responsibilities

A typical day might include:

  • Working flexibly in your home office, using a device of your choice, with or without music, in an atmosphere you create for yourself.
  • Clarifying the goals, roles, development, and execution plans for your team.
  • Helping your team understand our strategy and how they contribute to the big picture.
  • Proactively coaching people remotely, accelerating them along their personal growth trajectory.
  • Contributing positively to how we approach people and culture in the engineering team, including attracting and growing talent, supporting those who are thriving and also those who are struggling, building our culture, and fostering great career growth.
  • Influencing and uplifting our practices by advocating across teams, functions and departments.

Job requirements

A typical day might include

  • Has experience leading a large team of engineers delivering business impact, with a well-equipped managerial toolbox.
  • Has successfully managed teams in a remote-first environment
  • Has worked in a cross-functional team alongside other leaders such as a Product Manager, Designer, or similar
  • Has a technical background in software engineering
  • Takes accountability for the people in their team, the way they work, and the results they deliver.
  • Identifies and diagnoses dysfunction in their team, and resolves it in a timely manner to ensure your team performs at its best.
  • Confidently coaches developers at any level to reach their full potential.
  • Confidently helps their team navigate their way through large organisational change.
  • Gives and receives "radically candid" feedback that challenges and demonstrates care.
  • Create a culture of belonging and inclusion, ensuring everyone has an equitable opportunity to grow regardless of background, identity, or experience.
