Job description

Your Mission

Support 120+ Product and Engineering professionals in Sydney to perform at their best. You'll work directly with these teams, understanding their day-to-day challenges and delivering practical solutions that improve performance and retention. This role requires you to execute major initiatives; from compensation reviews to process improvements- while building genuine relationships across all levels. You'll need to move fast, solve problems kindly and pragmatically, and create systems that work.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual contributors and leaders within the Product and Engineering teams, offering guidance on people strategy.
  • Proactively identify trends in performance and engagement, collaborating with leaders and other People team members to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Manage employee relations matters across all levels, ensuring alignment with company values, goals, and legal requirements.
  • Partner with our leadership team to ensure a smooth ramp-up process for new hires and managers.
  • Advise on, manage, and administer benefits programs in Australia, ensuring alignment with company goals, market standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with the rest of the People Partnering group to drive Propeller's annual performance review process.
  • Support global compensation strategies, including analysis, structure improvements, and long-term strategy development. Leverage your deep understanding of the local tech market to ensure that Propeller's compensation and benefits packages for the P&E department are both competitive and strategically aligned with business objectives, fostering an equitable total rewards structure.
  • Support the Head of People in setting measurable, data-driven goals for yourself and the People Partnering team.
  • Collaborate proactively with the Employee Experience and Talent Acquisition teams to identify gaps, enhance systems and processes, and achieve shared goals.
  • Oversee global people projects, ensuring alignment with broader organisational priorities and measurable outcomes.

Must-have experience:

  • 8+ years of proven experience as a People Partner, HRBP or similar role
  • Previous experience partnering with product and engineering organisations and understanding best practices for rapidly scaling companies

Core skills:

  • Pragmatic problem-solver: You cut through complexity to find solutions that actually work. You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Strong relationships: You build trust quickly and maintain it. Technical people respect your judgment and come to you with their challenges. You are empathetic and perceptive; you handle sensitive situations with care and clarity.
  • Practical coach: You develop leaders and employees by offering constructive feedback and growth opportunities. You're comfortable giving honest feedback at all levels.
  • Execution focused: You turn plans into results. You've built processes from scratch, managed complex projects, and delivered on commitments in fast-moving environments.
  • Commercial mindset: You understand business drivers and use performance and engagement data to shape decisions. You effectively influence without authority and drive meaningful change.
